In our last entry, LSU's Super Regional opponent was yet to be determined. But the Rice Owls fought theire way out of the loser's bracket at the Houston, TX regional and beat Kansas State on Monday to advance to the Super Regional this weekend. Rice defeated K State in the deciding game 13-4.
LSU and Rice will square off in the best of three series this weekend at Alex Box Stadium. Game one is Friday night at 6:00pm. ESPN is slated to televize games 1 and 2 this weekend. Game 2 is 4:00pm on Saturday. If necessary, game 3 will be at 6:00pm on Sunday. Should that game take place, ESPN 2 will carry that one.
With only two wins needed to advance to Omaha, I figure LSU will start either Anthony Ranaudo or Louis Coleman in game 1, with the other getting the game 2 start. Smart money would be on Ranaudo since it seems to follow the sequence. Both Ranaudo and Coleman were outstanding in the Baton Rouge Regional this past weekend.
Should there be a game three, I would expect Austin Ross to get the nod. Ross was shaky at times during the regular season, but has pitched pretty well in the 2009 postseason.
Keep an eye to the Geaux Show website for updates, or perhaps, a possible mid-week show preview LSU and Rice this weekend.
